Hate is like that. I love my country but I see far too much hatred. We ‘Americans’ have this thing about those illegal aliens coming here taking our jobs and getting money from our government while we who have spent our whole life here fight to survive. I honestly think our government could be handling things differently and should take a serious look at what they are doing. Whoops… Did I say ‘they?’ Do you know what we too often forget? ‘We the people’ are the government. We vote those congressmen, senators as well as the President and Vice-president into office. We not only have the right but the responsibility to expect them to work for the good of the country. This is also our responsibility and we should be working for that, too.
Hating those people who came here for a better life serves no purpose. My fore-fathers and I am sure yours unless you are an American Indian came here for the same reason. Here is a country that promises ‘Freedom and justice for all.’ We declare, “All men are created equal”
In the harbor in New York City stands the Statue of Liberty, Lady Liberty became a beacon of hope for the thousands of immigrants coming through Ellis Island during the late 19th Century and early 20th Century. Her official name is "Liberty Enlightens the World," and the torch she proudly holds symbolizes that enlightenment. Emma Lazarus' famous poem about welcoming immigrants, which begins "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..." is inscribed on a bronze tablet that hangs inside the statue's pedestal and we as Americans’ have always been proud of Lady Liberty which was a gift from the France.
Let us not allow resentment and hatred to cause us to forget one of the things that made this country great.
We can start by sending letters, make phone calls and voice out to the people who we put in power and ask them to search their hearts and souls and realize that only when we as Americans work together to build a better future for all men can we be truly rich.
