We have a wonderful forest on our acres of land here and I love walking through it and spotting the wildlife that live in it. I enjoy the apple trees that are in the forest too. It gives me peace and makes me feel good to be able to do this.
Twenty-five years ago, my uncle and his son, after 70 years of working a poorly paying dairy farm, decided to plant most of it in trees. Today, dairy cows no longer roam the weedy pastures with minefields of cow pies everywhere. The little creek runs cleaner and unpolluted, and wildlife has taken over where cows gave off much more gas and their rich creamy milk clogged veins causing my aunt's early demise. The trees are about two thirds fully grown and will provide a good income from their lumber for many generations to come. The remainder of the farm has been turned into a weekend camping and radio control amusement park. It is a place where both humans and trees get along very nicely.
