Consider...God needs no help! He is the Creator of all things and He holds the universe in the Palm of His Hand (Is40:28,Ps146:6). There is nothing He cannot do! When God placed His Son in the womb of a human, He instructed Jesus to never use His Supernatural Powers. Thus, the Son of God - the infant, the toddler, the child, the adolescent, the teenager - the Man Jesus was clothed with nothing but...'Faith'. But it was the kind of Faith that could move 'mountains' (Lk17:6).

We know from scripture that Christ on the road to Calvary was clothed in humanity. For He had just the night before reminded His disciple that 'if' He wanted to, He could summon legions of angels to defend Him, but He chose not to (Mat 26:53-54). Therefore we know that He wore the robe of humanity for us! Every bit of His life was an example for us. Everything He taught, everything He did, everything He endured was to enlighten us...to show us that we too could do such things (Jhn 14:12,Matt21:21).

When He was unable to carry His cross on the road to His Crucifixion it was for us. It was to show us that we, as humans, could not make it alone in this world. We would need Help! For living in this world with all its trials (He stood trials), with all its persecutions and oppressions(He stood persecutions and oppressions), with all its 'crosses' (He carried one) is impossible…to do alone. We must have help! Jesus willingly shackled with humanity, got help. Simon of Cyrene (Mat27:32,Mk15:21, Lk23:26) was called and he helped Jesus to carry His Cross. He required help because He had been beaten, scourged and depleted of all human strength and...His cross...was too heavy!

Dear reader, we have crosses too. Crosses…which are too heavy to bear alone. Living in this world is a weighty task. Our only help is God! Without Him we 'cannot' make it! It is impossible to persevere and reach our heavenly home on our own strength. We weren't designed to do it alone. God didn’t structure us that way. We weren't formed with the ability to withstand the pressures and the stress of everyday life by ourselves. Almighty God did not intend for us to function in the most productive and positive way that is humanly possible, outside of His Presence. We were born with a need, a hunger,  a desire for something...someone...far greater than ourselves. We were purposely birthed with an emptiness, a yen that only Jesus can fill(Ps73:26,145:16-19)!

Until we accept God as the Master of our lives, we will continually 'thirst' and never be satisfied! For only He quenches every thirst (Jhn4:14). Only He satisfies every desire. Only He is the end of all our searching and the beginning of all our Peace...because ‘He’ lightens our load(Phil4:7)!

I can understand why many give up. I can understand why many crumble under the 'weight' of trying to make it and throw in the towel out of despair. I can understand because I am a living witness - I've been there! And I've learned I could not stand alone.  I found that life was too cruel, too disappointing, too hard without Jesus. To sum it up; life was just too 'heavy' without Him! (Is40:29)

I accepted the fact that I needed Him, albeit, one day I turned and I gave Him my life. Now He carries whatever crosses I may encounter along the way. I won't tell you that I don't sometimes consider all my troubles and shed some tears, but I don't 'carry' them! I 'couldn't' carry them...He does! He wipes my tears and strengthens and encourages me to go on. Life is not a lark, by any means, but it is do-able and we can be enabled to 'miraculously' press our way through by the Power, Mercy and Grace of Almighty God!(Gal 2:20)

Jesus and Simon of Cyrene. Think about that particular part of the Crucifixion. Why was it so important? Why did The Lord want it to be a part of the scriptures? What was He trying to tell us? Well I am sure there are many opinions and none of them are wrong because every line in the Word of God means something different to each person. A thousand people can read the same scripture text and it will mean something different to them all. That's what's so unique about the Word of God. Thus, for me, this scene is a perfect example of us... who is represented by Jesus. And God...who is represented by Simon. This scene depicts our need for God...we need the help of God to journey through this life, we cannot do it alone!

Dear reader, please remember something; we  c-o-n-s-t-a-n-t-l-y 'need' Him! It's not a one-time thing, my friend. It's not a sometimes thing. It's a never-ceasing thing. Why? Because…living life isn't a sometimes thing, it is continuous. And, life…without Jesus? It's too Heavy!
