Think America is divided over many different issues? Think again.

Problem solvers quickly learn that underlying nearly every difficult and complex problem is a single flaw that is repeated over and over again.  Such is the case with the present assortment of national political and cultural conflicts that have erupted in recent years.  Currently, our political and cultural landscape is deeply divided with no apparent hope for resolution in sight.  Controversy is everywhere.  Why is this so?  Is there moral authority, intellectual integrity or competing truth on both sides?  No, and that is the fundamental problem. 

Those on the social and political Left: Democrats, Libertarians, Socialists and other atheists, have built themselves into an ideological fortress that provides them no chance of success or way of escape.  Specifically, by fiercely embracing the Big Lie that denies the existence of absolute truth and objective morality, proponents of sexual deviance, abortion, evolutionary theory and climate change hysteria, who oppose any and all moral standards of human behavior, have positioned themselves upon an impossible and indefensible mount on which they cannot long remain.  In fact, they are losing ground day by day because they have built their arguments on shifting sands of personal preferences.

Since humans are the only species on earth that engages in same-sex activity, the animal world testifies to the truth of its illegitimacy.  The hideous nature of human fetal abortion bears witness to the heinous evil of this practice.  Genuine rational science rejects the mechanism of evolution and refutes the political propaganda of imminent environmental destruction caused by the burning of fuels.  Scripture affirms the truth in these cases.  Therefore, those who advocate on behalf of homosexuality, abortion, the cult of evolution and the environmental paranoia have no meritorious defense for their position.  Neither natural law nor moral law can sustain these beliefs.

It can be seductively tempting to attempt to engage our culture from a position of equity where none exists.  Christians and other moral conservatives can make the mistake of confusing common respect for a person, which is their due, with offering consideration to inane and dangerous ideologies, which is futility.  Compromise cannot be made with the Big Lie--it must be crushed.  In fact, even its most ardent proponents cannot live by it.

Episodes of anti-Trump protests, the activism of leftist federal judges, sanctuary cities’ defiance of immigration law, and childish Democrat hypocritical rage and hate are all symptoms of the same flaw.  That flaw is the obstinate denial of truth--legal, moral and spiritual.

For nearly two thousand years, truth was recognized by most people in the western world as the pinnacle of virtues.  But over the past one hundred years, the notion of truth as a definable value standard that can be known by various means, has been attacked and maligned as archaic and oppressive.  This insanity, is largely to blame for the deep divisions in America and many other western nations. 

The gravity of this fundamental problem cannot be overstated.  Without a standard of truth, our laws become arbitrary and meaningless, as we are seeing today.  Absent a standard of truth, all of our ideas about what is right or wrong and moral or immoral, are meaningless.  And once a majority of people reject the idea that truth can be known and accept the lie that morality is relative, anarchy is the predictable result.

This is not a new resurgent flaw among humans.  After all, the desire of man to create his own version of righteousness originated in the Garden of Eden, when Eve sought to “be like God knowing good and evil.”  What puts our culture in dangerous jeopardy is the fact that a significant number of Americans are obstinate and militant in their denial of moral truth.  Now, even legal authority is being challenged at every turn.  The most dangerous person in any era is one who becomes convinced that he is a law unto himself. 

Barack Hussein Obama, Congressional Democrats and defiant protesters are such people as this.  The only forms of authority they will ever respect are political power and physical force.  For this reason, they cannot be placated.  Negotiations with truth deniers will never resolve the conflict.  Common ground between free people and godless socialist Democrats does not exist and cannot be forged.  If America is to remain free, the enemies of truth that seek to control others must be defeated. 

Endless arguments over specific issues such as illegal immigration, climate change hysteria, and anti-Trump hatred will resolve nothing.  But that does not mean that the situation is hopeless.  God can open the eyes of the blind, and standing firm in the knowledge of truth will illustrate the ultimate futility of opposition to His Word.
