We have all heard the term "Positive Attitude."  Many author's have written about the benefits of having a positive attitude and advice on how to obtain and maintain a positive attitude. The truth is that's it's probably easier to write the book than it is to actually accomplish. A positive attitude is something no one can give you. A positive attitude comes from with in and is derived from your own mental ability to overcome adversity. Anyone can be positive when times are good. When everything in your life is in balance it's easy to have a positive out look. Maintaining a positive out look through adversity is the key to having a successful life. Adversity comes to us all at some point in life. It can come from the choices you make. It can come from the actions of others or it can come from forces beyond your control such as an illness or loss of a loved one. For a business person it can come from a down turn in the economy or some unforeseen change in your industry. So how do you maintain a positive attitude when you are sick ? When you've lost a loved one ? When you are bankrupt or broke ? I could go on and on but you know what I mean. In any of these situations there is seldom anything positive to focus on.

 

Some people have such a strong faith in themselves and their own ability that they seem to be able to overcome anything. Most of us aren't like that and each of us have our own way that we handle adversity. When I'm dealing with adversity I draw my strength form my faith and have often said to my family "We will get through this at least they haven't crucified us yet." To me the greatest example of overcoming adversity was Christ being crucified. The Bible gives us advice for handling adversity one of my favorites being Philippians 4:13 which says "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  

 

As I often say have faith in God whatever you conceive Him or Her to be. All of us are different in how we think but all of us deal with all of life's problems in our own unique way. Your attitude comes from with-in so be strong in your thinking and strong in your belief in being able to overcome never give up and never let anyone discourage you from pursuing your goals. Yes there will be set backs and yes there will be failures that's part of the journey and that's how you learn. I drew our Hants Realty sign home on my kitchen table in Nine Mile River and said I was going to start a real estate company. Everyone told me I was crazy and I'd never make a living. I worked in the woods cutting pulpwood and logs for the first 3 years in the mornings and worked real estate afternoons and evenings. That was 40 years ago. Many big companies and franchise operations have come and gone all tried to put us out of business using every trick in the book. I learned that many people who shout support local seldom practice it. I learned that success comes with more resentment than it does rewards. I learned that life is about the journey and not the destination. Who to hell was I to start a real estate company anyway ? Just a good old boy from Nine Mile River that believed he could. This is your life ! It's never too late go for it! you can do it.! I know you can!
