I hate changing clocks!

Professor Ambrose Penwose, Kiwi

Good Evening,

I remember the time I took my Xwife by Marriage out to sea on a fishing trip. It made the national news.
Headline
FISHERMAN RESCUES CREATURE STRANDED ON ICEBERG
Just Kidding!

This is Pet Peeve Day Two, the first workday of Daylight Savings Time.
I know you are tired of hearing me say this, and I know nothing will happen, but I’m a writer so I write.
I HATE CHANGING CLOCKS!
IT IS STUPID!!!
There is no reason for it. Whatever advantage occurred in the days when it was instituted is gone. All it does is disrupt daily lives and I have to risk my life climbing ladders to the clocks. I don’t even know what time it is now. My computer, and my cell phone, say 9:30, but all the rest of the clocks say 8:25, (They run a little slow.) I just bought a new vehicle and I don’t even know where the clock is, let alone if it changes automatically. Let me jot that down on my to do list for today.
OK, I’m back.
I must speak of a cute incident for those who may be new to my column. Arizona is the ONLY STATE WITH A BRAIN. It does not change to Daylight Savings Time. They are in The Mountain Time Zone, we in Las Vegas are in The Pacific, (Not the ocean the time zone.) Usually Arizona is one hour ahead of us, but when we switch and they don’t we’re the same.
Hoover Dam is a boundary between Arizona and Nevada. There is a clock in each state, one says Arizona Time, the other says Nevada Time. I was crossing the dam with a busload of tourists, during the summer. As you probably know all clocks do not run the same. They may be off a little.
A woman on my bus said, “What do you know, there’s two minutes difference between Nevada and Arizona.”
To those who argue and say it’s a good thing, I ask…
If it is such a good thing, why don’t we change the clocks 2 hours, or 3, or whatever?
It’s dumb and we should stop it!

Penwose Out,

I seem to recall that Indiana, like Arizona, did not change along with the rest of the US. Perhaps they started to, later, reluctantly. I believe the original intention was for those working people getting home at a little after 5 pm, could enjoy evening activities in the summertime with their children are without. Do projects and otherwise enjoy evenings without having to turn the lights on. But that was the 1950s and people now operate much differently than they did then.

I do recall that the farmers were mightily upset with daylight savings time, because their cows were used to a rhythm that was upset when the time changed and they wouldn't produce milk until they got re-acclimated to the new time twice a year.

Thanks to you, the cows will get their time back.

Bye, George,

Ron
