(MITCHELLVILLE, MD - SEPT. 29, 2011) When poet J. Joy Matthews Alford, known poetically as Sistah Joy, sits across from her guests as host on her television talk show, one of her goals is to garner as much interesting information for her viewers to enjoy as possible. As a result her passionate and genuine hosting talents have not gone unnoticed. The author of “Lord, I’m Dancin’ As Fast As I Can” and poet extraordinaire will be awarded the Best Host Award in the Entertainment Category at CTV’s Prince George’s Community Television’s 14th Annual Community Access Magic (CAM) Awards and Scholarship Presentations on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 6:30 pm. The ceremony will take place at Newton White Mansion, 2708 Enterprise Road, Mitchellville, Maryland.
Her popular show “Sojourn with Words,” which debuted in 2006 is a collaboration born of the artistic vision of Alford and CTV cultural arts program producers. The show features artist interviews, performances and readings by area poets and also includes coverage of community-based, public and private poetry and literary events. It airs on CTV Comcast Channel 76 and Verizon FIOS Channel 42 (check local listings for times). The station itself is an award winning, non-profit cable access facility that serves as the media hub of information for Prince George's County.
Alford who won her first national award in 2006, a Telly Award for Cultural Excellence in Programming, is also the founder of Collective Voices a local poetry ensemble that has performed nationally and abroad. She was awarded 2nd Place CAM (Community Access Magic) Award in Entertainment in 2008.
