somewhere between burgundy and brown.
I was the right kind of man but
I’d been prayin’ for daylight
but each day just leads to the dark.
I finally found fulfillment.
Then I gave it up just for a lark.

They say the world is our oyster.
Treasure each day in the sun.
You’ll be missin’ the sunshine
when you realize the last one is done.
So I found myself wanderin’
Ain’t but one dream that matters
and that dream don’t matter that much.

I get to thinkin’ about dyin’
wonderin’ what comes at the end.
When it’s finally my turn
might be wishin’ I’d found me a friend.
When the Lord comes to see me
I’ll ask him what took him so long.
I’m resigned to the darkness.
They’ve saved paradise for the strong.

When the Lord comes to get me
I’ll ask him what took him so long.
I’ve accepted the darkness.

I did my best. It wasn't much.
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch.
I've told the truth. I didn't come to fool ya.
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
with nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah.

I could 'hear' this as music. You're such a gifted poet/writer Mark. Love reading your work.

Enjoyed the poem and the dialect very much.

I usually don't comment on religious poems. But I place this one more like lyrics for a spiritual that I heard a chorus singing one time. Great words with powerful meaning.
