If you’re tired of worrying about the toxicity of artificial sweeteners but don’t want to absorb the empty calories of sugar, here’s a no-cal product I think you’ll like.

Artificial sweeteners, ubiquitous,

In much we eat and drink,

Effect on health, iniquitous,

Made me stop and think:

How do I play calorie game?

Queried web, answer found.

Stevia —unlikely name —

From natural leaf is ground.

Sweetens like aspartame,

No guilty calories, of course.

 For sweet tea, cereal same,

I found a low priced source.

Swansonvitamins.com on line,

Has vitamins and Stevia too,

A hundred paks for $3.59,

I said, “Okay, this’ll do”.

Toxic sweeteners we’ll unseat

If word’s spread all over town.

Stevia’s taste is oh, so sweet,

And helps you fit your gown.

Thank you for sharing this informative poem, Leland. I'd not heard of stevia before this. Love and peace to you,

Additional info on stevia: Internet article says that 47% of sweeteners used in Japan are stevia based, including Diet Coke. It is illegal to sell aspartame there.

STEVIA HAS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY TESTED IN THE SEVENTIES, EIGHTIES AND NINETIES. THERE IS NO CONTRA-INDICATION OR SIDE REACTION OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING ALLERGIC. The "WHO" WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION HAS LISTED STEVIA AS RISKLESS. (It can be bought from most HEALTHSTORES.)

I did enjoy this poetic composition.

I salute You, Poet.

In gratitude and admiration,
