A little ditty about the financial crisis. Does recycling and cutting back save anything or relieve poverty I wonder or does it cost more to recycle? Nothing to do with the poem, just a thought.

Where did all the money go?
is a question asked around the world.
The bankers say they do not know,
politicians? they deny also
responsibility for the farrago
that the crisis has unfurled.

Maybe a mathematical theory
that built the economic model
was required to answer the wrong query
when economists in their eyrie
finding their work boring and dreary
changed the data inputting twaddle.

Looking back; before reality’s intrusion
with hindsight we can see quite clearly
through the panic and confusion.
Therefore we reach the conclusion
prosperity was an illusion.
There was never any money really.

It was economic voodoo,
Borrow now, mortgage your future.
People you’d trust conspired to tell you
the product they were trying to sell you
was guaranteed to increase in value.
Magic was worked in the computer.

Money appeared like a white rabbit,
out of thin air to feed your spending habit.

ah, illusions...

Well, what really ruled was a mind-boggling greed...it still does, no doubt.

Here's to prosperity to you, Ian, and to me...who knows what will happen or develop in the end. At least we have a wealth of thought to draw on.
