Dreams Die First

With a title taken from a Harold Robbins book and a lyric that owes something to Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen and Jaques Brel this piece tells something of the culture of expectation and entitlement we have developed and how it can steal away our lives.

Chorus
Dreams die first then love grows cold
And before we know it we're growing old.
Dreams die first then love grows cold
And before we know it we're growing old.

Did you ever think when you were sixteen
how you'd hate to be thirty - one
But hours and days just keep slipping by
The golden years are quickly gone
If you believe there is no use in counting
You'll soon find that the numbers are lies
So don't be afraid of the lines in your face
They are nothing but time's disguise

Chorus
Dreams die first then love goes cold
And before we know it we're growing old
Dreams die first then love grows cold
And before we know it we're growing old.

Russiagate: FBI Lied To Mueller Inquiry

I was walking with my love down the main street
The young ones were gathering in gangs
The air was so heavy with the smell of defeat
I seemed I could hold it in my hands
And we thought that we sometimes saw faces
Who used to be people we knew
I said to my love "There's no hope in their eyes"
She said "We could have gone that way too"

Hi Ian
This is great and seems to me it's gotta be put to music! You know all us over 30's and under olds will appreciate it!!!

This would make an interesting rock ballad, I think. As an occasional depressive, I have to agree with a lot of this. The trick is to live in the moment, as the glib pixie said to the frog (oh dear, I have been gathering the wrong mushrooms again).......... Sara
