Born and raised on red dirt farms in rural Georgia, '40's and '50's, I'm 2nd oldest of eight siblings (now six) as two have passed away. There are some negatives in having a number of siblings for sure, but I think the positives far outweigh them! Most of us love to read and I've been an avid reader from 5 years old, it was my escape from our poor lifestyle, though I've come to value that life. Mother and Daddy taught us to have self respect and value hard work.
Fast forward: For many years Sylvia Nickels has lived and writes near the East Tennessee mountains, has been active in leadership with local writer's guilds, and stays young-at-heart by spending as much time as possible with her great-grandchildren.
Mystery fiction is her preferred genre, though she has published a couple of nonfiction books, including a bio/memoir - Eight Miles of Muddy Road - which chronicles growing up in very rural West Georgia, daughter of a sharecropper. One of her fictional protagonists is a female PI because she once aspired to be one! Her first novel series features Private Investigator Cameron Locke, who leaves no stone unturned in her cases in Wexler Bend, Tennessee, hoping her friendship with police Sergeant Shac Lane grows into something deeper.
Cam's first three adventures, most recent, Lament for a Broken Girl, are available in print and ebook, and the fourth will be soon, she hopes.
Royce Thorne, her other series main character, continually irritates Police Chief Jared Granite in Fall Creek, Tennessee, while searching for evidence in criminal cases.
Standalone novels, Sweetwater Deception and A Killing at Cob Corners, set in Sylvia's native state of Georgia, are also available.
A forthcoming science fiction novella-in-four parts reveals that human nature is the same, good and bad, even on faraway planets. Her science fiction short stories have appeared in Bewildering Stories ezine, selected for an Editors Choice award, and Communities Magazine.
Her mystery/crime short story was included in L & L Publishers anthology, Mystery of the Green Mist.
Her short story, The Sweet Taste of Revenge, won Honorable Mention at the Cape Fear Writer's Conference Short Story Competition.

Disguise for Death, Encore for Death, and Fury for Death, All three of my Royce Thorne mystery series are available at numerous online outlets with brand new covers.
I now have three novels published in my Cameron Locke PI cozy mystery series. They are Requiem for a Party Girl; Delusion for a Lonely Girl; and the third Lament for a Broken Girl. All are available in print and ebook through Amazon and all online sources and may be ordered through brick-and-mortar bookstores.
My first short story, 'Bods,' sf genre, appeared in the print magazine, Communities, and was reprinted in an ezine. Since then, several other stories, a couple of them mysteries, a love story, and a couple of hard-boiled have also been published online. A rather dark murder story of mine, Teddy Boy, can be found in the 1st quarter 2003 issue of Futures Mysterious Anthology Magazine - FMAM.
Several of my short stories have been published online and a couple are still available, 'Casino Justice' and 'Starr Sight' at Bewildering Stories.
A story, The Taste of Sweet Revenge, was an Honorable Mention in the Cape Fear Writers Conference contest.
My essay, 'Persimmon Memories,' was included in the print anthology, Rocking Chair Reader-Coming Home by Adams Media and 'Reservoir of Death' in Mystery of the Green Mist anthology by L&LDreamspell Publishers.
