"Given this inhospitable weather / I think we had better stick together"
Transcendental Sonnet #1189:
At Least We Have Learned to Fly
for Silke
The conclusion is inescapable
Every day it becomes more plain to see
This world is utterly incapable
Of understanding either you or me
The two of us are left unknown alone
Given this inhospitable weather
I think we had better stick together
Carried and sown like seed wind-blown and shown
To be wanderers not by choice but fate
Blown far off-course yet it is not too late
No matter where we find ourselves to be
As long as you hold onto me as long as I
Hold onto you it matters not whether
We know where we blow at least we have learned to fly
