"Nothing really matters without a kiss"

Poem Artwork

Cigarettes and Kisses

When I think I want a cigarette
What I know I need is a kiss
Now I have neither of these and yet
A kiss is what I really miss

Offering me life instead of death
A kiss is something which takes my breath
Away in such a much better way

So someday if you should hear me say
That I think I want a cigarette
We will know what I need is a kiss

Lonely looking for love I went astray
And I found nothing but poems like this

While at least I don't taste like an ashtray
Nothing really matters without a kiss

A title that pulls one into a whirlwind, a story. And all those who have had many of both will understand - all too well.

Great title - wish I had thought of it. The metre and rhyme needs a little work and I feel you can do better with this. I quit smoking two years ago and I reckon I would have appreciated this sentiment at the time. You really have got something with this poem. I think you should keep the earthy 'plain speaking' but, and this is just my opinion of course, your poem needs to flow a little easier. I don't know if it was intentional that the poem is 14 lines. It could be a sonnet?

Kisses are so much sweeter than ciggies. :) And they don't kill (unless it's the kiss of death...LOL). Well done, Steven!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
