Wartime (purgatory)

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

The older kids are watching a warmovie wich I could bare to see more then a few minutes of. I brought my laptop to a quiet place and wrote this inspired by the few scenes I managed to watch.

Poem Artwork

Raining grenades
on fields of fire,
on fields of red.

Hail to the dead,
cover the fields,
the crops they bled.

Sulfur, brimstone,
it's in your head.
Purgatory graveyard,
mortal coil shed.

Wartime, woundtime,
brains a leaking,
find heroism,
nervends a tweaking.

Rattle bones,
rattle chains,
rattle cage,
nothing remains.

Chaos adrift
 wayward shores,
meet the maker,
 death count scores.

None leave
unscathed,
at night
 demons dance,
forage souls,
pillage light.

Do not enter
bloody zone,
bloody zone,
of war.

Hail to the dead,
cover the fields,
the crops the bled.

Harsh, stark, and real; and so very sad that humanity has not evolved from warring over the millennia. Love and peace to you, Elisabeth,

Regis. 🙏🌺🌼🌷
