Self deceit

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

The title reffers to how we sometimes decieve ourselfs with doubt, it's part of being human. Where there is strength there is also weakness to balance the scale (or so I see it). I think it's a sign of health to be able to let oneself feel doubt, to feel lesser or weaker at times.

Poem Artwork

 The moon light the nightsky
a trailblazer in the dark
to usher the path for the dawn
fuel love and light, a spark
to ignite the fire
me
a silent bird on a wire

Heaps of gold before my feet
gems like stars strewn cross my path
As far as the eye can see
I see only you and me
as we ignite the night
another life in sight

Fearsome I hesitate before my goal
comes real, it's the Hope I dare not feel
like a thief in the night it has come to steal
the accolade before it turns into a heap of coal

A pauper in a paper hat, ink and quill
set aside for the fear shook the thrill
out of minds eye into nill
and nothing as I hit the void
as storys became untold

Accolyte of masters come and gone
I shook out
the words on parchment to dry
they mean nothing but a solemn cry
for you my guide fade into oblivion
as I choke on silent words unsung
convinced they are a delirium

Cry into the suns bright gleam
a lonely, silent echo scream
not good enough to fill the dream
to maketh dwell in light
of day where scribbles shine too bright

I would shun this demon if only I Could
as it scream into my ears you are not good
enough to be seen in the light of day
my scribbles will fade into nothing
as I shrivel, quiver, erase me away

I am nothing but a speck of dust
on the suns bright surface,
the salt that make steel into rust
a babylon statue as I gaze
on nothing in lieu of a face

Never give up and never give in to your inner demons in life.
Self confidence is the answer to everything.

We all have our demons to fight. Remember this, you are good, God don't make no junk. A soulful and thought provoking poem, Elisabeth.
