Haunted by a Dream

Poem Artwork

(Never been one to enjoy standing in the center of attention.)

With you I got attention in tenfold and I  found it daunting.

Still I always think back to our meetings, they’re haunting.

(Was it real or just illusion?

Memories or confusion? )

Climbing endless mountains of today.

I carry the boulder of yesterday.

Reluctant to let it go.

Reluctant to live in the

now.

(still)

A distant dream so hard to grasp.

My knowledge stuck in the past.

(love meant to last)

I will keep on carry this dream in my heart,

though it is a dream from which I need to part.

(got to let go)

My heart will hold this sorrow as I walk into tomorrow.

(don’t want to)

A piece of me is forever lost at such a cost.

I will hold that image alive still

your smile to bring back at my will.

Always your attention entirely focused on me

(I see you)

The young man who couldn’t stop looking at me.

Smiling from ear to ear

almost jumping in his chair.

(made my heart tremble)

The slightly older man, eyes wide with recognition,

and the spark that set fire to the pyre of conviction.

(made my heart tremble)

Again just months ago, your eyes they bestow me with so much attention, it is almost like your intention, is to invite me to dance, I’m spellbound in trance. But still so afraid to take the chance.

(so afraid)

Like a moth to the flame

I am feeling the same

That connection.

Instant attraction.

(can you carry me over?)

Climbing endless mountain of todays.

I carry the boulder of yesterdays.

Reluctant to let it go.

Reluctant to live in the now .

(still)

I can see it haunts you so. But there's always that intuitive attraction, sometimes expressed by the eyes, that can't be denied. Some have had those recurring dreams that are hard to get rid of. They will identify with them more than I. I always look forward to the next dream, knowing the old one will never return. At least not with the spark that once was.
