Summer is coming

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

I might be a little odd. But I always both welcome and dread spring. I love the fact that it gets warmer. I don't like that it gets lighter and lighter outside. Pretty soon it will be summer and light all day and all night long. I will so miss the cozy darkness outside.

Poem Artwork

It's almost upon us.

Season of green trees
and cute buzzing bees.

Bumble bees drunken flight
summer dresses nice and tight.

A cold beer in the sun
vacation and nowhere to run.

Just me and my love
and the sun shining above.

What a lovely season
inspite of suns treason.

Shining night and day
pushing sleep away.

Dark curtains in the bed room
this season over which we swoon.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about the false illusions of daylight saving. I too miss the summer evenings when the evening should be evening and not the dreaded lingering, hot daylight into 9:00 pm. I lived many years in the deserts of the Middle East and they have enough sense not to change their clocks into daylight saving time. They want the hot sun to go down so they can go out and enjoy the cool breezes of the evening.
