The American Civil War Name: John B. Sweet, Jr. Residence: Bristol Rank: Private Unit: Company H, Seventh Rhode Island Volunteers Fate: Wounded December 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, Virginia. Mortally wounded May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania, Virginia. Died of wounds July 7, 1864, at Washington, D.C. World War One Robert Booth Jr., Corporal, U.S. Army, 37221755, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division. Entered the Service from Kansas. He was the son of Robert and Effie Jane Booth. World War Two Boggild, Vilhelm "Bill" Kruuse F66822. Corporal. North Nova Scotia Highlanders. Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. 1925 to 1945. Bill Boggild was working as a camp clerk in Caledonia, Queens County for the Mersey Paper Company, when he enlisted 3 April 1943 at Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He entered the No.2 Canadian Army University Course at Acadia University in August of 1943 and graduated in May of 1944. Following advanced infantry training he went overseas in October 1944. Bill was with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in the successful Battle for the Scheldt and was killed after the crossing of the Rhine. At the time of his death his brother Captain Kai was in the RCNVR on the HMS Dryade; his brother F/L Carl, a member of the RCAF, was a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft III, Germany and his brother Paul was living at home in Lockeport. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Hadong, South Korea on July 27, 1950. For his leadership and valor, Sergeant First Class Johnson was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal. If you combined all the deaths in all the wars mentioned, maybe man would see, but most likely not, seeing as absolute power corrupts absolutely, and there is always someone after it. WW1, often forgotten, had so many deaths, and there is a great book/film on the subject called, "Regeneration" by Pat Barker and the films are "Regeneration" (UK version) and "Behind the Lines" (american version of the same film) and it shows not only the way they treated shell shock victims back then, as it is set in an Edinburgh Mental Health facility, but it also shows how it affected some of the greatest WW1 poets, Sigfried Sassoon, Robert Graves, and my favorite poet ever, Wilfred Owen- and that's just mentioning a few.The same could be said of the Civil War, not to mention Korea, as you did- Thanks for drawing attention to this-it is sad that so often the individual soldier gets forgotten.
