Somber gray is our day
A hush has befallen mankind
'Tis an omen of impending doom
Fruit of dastardly deeds
Hatred, lust, greed and indifference
Seeds sewn profusely, deliberately
Throughout countless years
Harvest time has come
We shall reap the bounty of our labor
We shall dine upon its offerings
Taste its bitter fruit
That which we have brought forth
Somber gray is our day
A streak of red is seen across the horizon
Reminiscent of painted lips of an angry woman
Scarlet, twisted and accusing
"A curse upon you!" they seem to scream
Ney, 'tis not a woman's lips I see
But a river of blood instead
Humanity's blood ... flowing a vivid red!
Somber gray is our day
An omen clear that our time may be near
Have we prepared?
Re-accessed our values and priorities?
Acknowledged and embraced each loved one?
Charted our course of destiny?
Begun its plan of action?
What the hell are we waiting for?
Our last somber day may be ... today!
Excellent poem. If only men could do away with greed and work for a common purpose in the interest of mankind. If only men knew that there is another world waiting for them to jude thir past deeds. Well done sister Gwen
a powerful plea to mankind, to dispell his differences and work towards a common goal of enlightrenment and brotherhood ...
