Just another sad day in South L.A.

Poem Artwork

It was a cruel deed

Mother naming you Misery

Father seconding the motion

Back alley justice solved half the problem

Penitentiary claimed the other

Big girls don’t cry over spilt milk

Especially the kind that only produces orphans

Detectives say the apartment has been cleared

So you and your sisters can go home now

Social services will check on you Friday

After school

Separating the three of you is not decided

Depends on what the Judge says

And the landlord too

Rent’s 8 weeks overdue

Still, you’re not alone

For now

Embrace your sisters and revel

In the company

Misery loves it

What else can she do?

Compelling poem, Patrick. Is it based on fact? Sounds like something that might happen in any city in the USA.

This sounds like it might be something from the L.A. headlines, maybe even bigger than that, but I'm not familiar with it.... (didn't show up on my sports page)

I like the way your poems so often call attention to and put a spin (often comical) on things from the news. I also like that this one took the serious route, not a joking matter....

Thanks Dick

THE SPIRIT OF 'MISERY' COVERS THE WHOLE EARTH...AND THERE IS ONLY ONE ANSWER; '...WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE, SWEET LOVE...' THANKS FOR SHARING, PATRICK. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...

"Misery". I don't think it's in the name but how she is brought up. Name doesn't matter; attitude and personal responsibility do.
Good poem, ol' pal...
And thank you for all the gas yesterday

True or false, matters not. What matters is that this scenario is happening on a daily basis throughout the land. Sad write . . .

I was going to joke about this, but it is too sad. “Can't we all get along.” Doesn't seem to apply to the human race. If we don't have a full life, we resort to escapism. Escapism usually results in misery. A vicious cycle few escape.

I guess a name Misery is a sad indicatin of the life she was born into....such a tragic story that is the story of far too many children everywhere...Well done, Patrick!
