Pure fiction that evolved while listening to a Jimmy Buffett tune in my pickup on my way into town for an errand.

Poem Artwork

It started out on Monday

Continued through the week

Every time you spoke to me

I had to turn the other cheek

It does seem strange to tell you

The undisputed truth

Your modus-operandi

Was wasted on my youth

Late at night I close my eyes

My journey’s trail gone cold

Reconstructing memories

Of the bill of goods you sold

Cause I just kept on buying

Until I’d had my fill

Sat fat dumb and happy

Till you handed me the bill

I guess I’ve learned my lesson

As you do just what you please

I’ll lick my wounds remembering

It’s the heart that's first to freeze

You know I will recover

I’ll soon be on my way

Working up the courage

To love another day

Such is life; at least you have learned a lesson. Your theme is timeless and universal. Thank you, Patrick. Love and peace,

Great insightful poem, Patrick. You delved into the heart of many a wasteful love affair. Eh, maybe not so wasteful after all, especially if we can learn from it and watch for the telling images in loves game down the road.
