I think you would find it freeing and quite enlightening if you ever just quit "holding on" to all this ritual and scripture that you rely on to justify misery and pain instead of facing what it is, just misery and pain that can be left behind without the need of some mythical higher order of this or that has been controlling so many for so long.
I am not holding on to anything. When I was near death in December 2012, I was not anxious at all and felt no need to pray for anything. I was at peace and would have accepted death if that was the course that my pneumonia would take. Fortunately, a skilled doctor operated on my lung and removed the infection or fungus and I recovered. God had nothing to do with it.
