Rachel Dolezal
It's a long hard road we come upon
my friend
and I'm not referring to history book, writings
and the likes of...them
We come through rivers, graveyards and fields...
wooden shacks...bearly there...cold
we come with bleeding back and raped souls...still
we come bold
Tears flowing...we bent l-o-w
we reached high and still...reaching for the sky
dreamt...of today...to make it so
pulling, pushing our babies, telling them...by and by
We see you and you seem kind
with a determined made up mind...
a strong woman with an intent...a purpose
that you wanted to...shine
We heard you say you were once denied
you say...you got the slip
you feel this...yes? But compared to our forefathers
you only felt...a nip
So someone slapped you on the hand
and said, 'don't pretend'...
come to us as you really are
not darkened seeking...a bend
There's objection when one steps into shoes
that don't fit...
especially when masquerading
not having labored...a bit
What you fail to understand
is that your comradership is appreciated
but we need authentic 'you'...your stand
in this our wayward land
It's not your hair... that makes some frown
wear it the way you like
it's not your skin color
make-up dark...or...make-up light
what it is is your 'press' to deceive
as to who you really are...and be
See, it's your honesty we seek
its...that...which will make your 'gold' glisten
thus, it's 'you' that is necessary
to make some haters...listen
Real 'sisters'...?
come in every nationality and hue
and we love one another
yes...we do!
We can't ignore the love you've shown
in many of your choices...
you've pushed to join and remarkably led
as we lifted our voices
We're grateful for your staunch presence
your tenacity in this ongoing...pace
but we want the true 'you'...
without the black face
Consider...our feelings could only deepen
our admiration...so much more
how our strength would increase
with your 'true ' fist pounding...on that 'R' door
Come with your complaints
and come with your despairs
come...let us strive together
marching, and petitioning...with prayers
God...He made you...did He not?
and He colored you White
He fashioned you for a good purpose
not to deceive...in this fight
What's the honest aim of your heart...
is our continued thrive your 'true '...zeal?
then why come to us covered...
why not an uncovered...appeal?
So it is...on this side of the mountain
you've extended your hand
and Lord knows, we need it...'cause
seem things are going back to once-upon-a-time sand
But when we looked closer...your hand is hidden
with a smooth, gloved...culdesack
you're not at all who you claimed to be...turns out,
You're not Black

I recall the white man who blackened his skin and lived with blacks back in the Jim Crow days, eventually to write his book, "Black like Me." I heard him speak and his book revealed a lot about how discrimination worked on the minds of people with even 1% black blood being considered black by the white population.
As a white person who taught and worked in two predominantly black universities for 33 years, I can see why Rachel Dolezal has done what she did. During my career I often wondered how it would have went had my colleagues not been so suspicious of my motives for being there. If I had claimed to be black, I would have been welcome to enter many inner circles that I was not.
I'm with you, I see nothing wrong with her deciding to consider herself black. However, deception is deception, and it does cast a shadow. I wonder if anyone's noticed that Rachel's case is very similar to Bruce Jenner's. On the other hand, he came out publicly, and she was outed by her parents.
I certainly do hope she comes through this and prospers as result. She is a fine woman with a lot to offer… Just like you, my dear.
