There are many like her. Real unsung heroes. Needing a typist before I had computers, I hired a young lady out of business school doing freelance typing. She had two baby boys and a ne'er-do-well husband to care for, so she took her typing service seriously and made a good living at it. But, she wanted more, and put herself through law school. For many years now she has been a family lawyer with her own firm.
There was another woman who worked with me on a database I developed for her where we worked. She had three sets of twins and another ne'er-do-well husband. Rode the bus to work and was even hit one day by a car with a serious concussion that took a long time to recover from. Still, she worked herself through a bachelors degree. And, with her kids grown, quit the supervisor job she had in customer service, traveled the country on a bus pass for a long time until she found the ideal place to settle. She is single again, free from her kids, and an executive assistant in an important position.
