Dear America…...
How I do love you! You’re my birthplace…
my home, my blood…is here!
forefathers, I never knew have willingly
suffered and died with a faithful…tear
I cannot, will not…ever, turn my back on you
we are, until the end, still one…
yet, I wouldn’t really…love or care
if this reprimand…was not duly spun
Our country was established on prayer
many types of freedom permeate our airs
but, it seems we’ve forgotten this truth…
in the present time…and…in past years
When I think of the shame with regards to our deeds
how we ‘herded’ innocent humans in 1942 to ‘45
indeed, how we 'contained' men, women and children...
it touches the soul and waters the eyes
But here it is, I see...my grief over such heinous acts
has only…just…begun
as now you’re snatching children, tots and…babies!
from the arms of their pleading loved ones
Please…please don’t tell me it’s not vengeance
because it is…it is!
back in ’42 it was in retaliation for…Pearl Harbor
today, it’s to discourage immigrants, questing to live!
And one cannot ignore the vile note which
rings so clear in this unspeakable…chase
it seems this type of force is always targeted
against those…of a non-Caucasian…race!
Yes, illegal immigration is ‘wrong’ this law we cannot ignore
but as their infants cry for their mother’s smell and touch
with merciful hearts, let’s seek the reasons for their track…
why…they take the chance of losing what they value so much!
Here we stand…this great country...and we boast…
in that we are strong, secure and…more
for God Blesses us abundantly with resources…
that roll…from shore to shore
We’re a shining beacon…which attracts
those escaping dark, searching…for light
and as they flee from depressive oppression
our land is like an oasis…an end…to arid flight
To them we’re a sweet waterfall of hope
which is spied far beyond the stench of manure
and they, who are so desperate, try to reach it….
despite the risks they know they must endure
You want to crush their efforts…by breaking their hearts
so, you take from them their flesh and bone…their life
your cut is deep, but you forget…
they’ve learned how to rally...despite…cruelty’s knife
I’m glad for the demonstrations, the peaceful demands
for there is an immigrant, legal or not, in every chain
this ‘separation of families’ stems…from the fiery pit
it’s an insult to America… filled with marked disdain
And, sadly, we will pay the price…Oh, Blessed Nation!
in years to come…history will surely remind
of the awful…cost…for this terrible stand
at a time when…Pride for America…could not be defined
And what of the precipitators…that further stain our legacy?
think not that they’ll escape…justice’s crib
for one day they will stand before God…
seeking…The Mercy…that they did not give!
………Dear America!

AND, OF COURSE, AS A POET I USE METAPHORS AND THE WORD PRECIPITATOR IS THE NOUN FORM OF THE WORD PRECIPITATE WHICH, ACCORDING TO RANDOM HOUSE, WEBSTER'S COLLEGE DICTIONARY, MEANS...TO SEPARATE,TO CAST DOWN HEADLONG VIOLENTLY, TO HASTEN THE OCCURRENCE OF, TO BRING ABOUT PREMATURELY OR SUDDENLY; TO 'PRECIPITATE' A CRISIS. I DO, AT TIMES, NEED CORRECTING AND I DO, FROM MY HEART, HONESTLY APPRECIATE WHENEVER IT IS DONE. BUT NOT THIS TIME. PRECIPITATORS IS EXACTLY WHAT I MEANT.

Just last evening I watched a public television documentary on World War I. So many blacks signed up and willingly fought in Europe in segregated divisions. They fought bravely and ferociously, while suffering some of the greatest losses of all the armies fighting. In France, they discovered that, while there was discrimination, they were treated like heroes equally along with other Americans who had come there to save France from the quagmire of the war. Unfortunately, upon their return, their fellow soldiers turned on them and there were many atrocities and lynchings of the brave fighters who stood up for America only to be vilified in their own country. What a shame. What a shame. We must guard against doing those kinds of things ever again.
