Some years ago, I had been inspired to write a tribute to Coretta Scott King, widow of Martin Luther King, which I did. I now, however, cannot find it. I am thanking God for the inspiration to write another one, as indeed�she was a Great Lady, and we are reminded of Martin in tangible ways today because of her efforts. When Martin Luther King first saw her she was not looking his way Her heart set on singing to an … operatic sway. But overshadowed by a destined light which neither could deny…they knew... God indeed was calling them for, He had a job for them to do. And she went with him becoming his wife… And so much more as they persevered an uncertain and oft threatened …life. She was his beloved confidante… his encourager with a trusted nod Full of strength on which he relied... she bore children...softening racism’s hard sod. Though there were those…high and low who tried to put a wedge between them… She was faithful and stood beside him regardless the pain…even to his end. Ignoring the allegations, together… they fought nails of injustices while he lived Yet even after his assassination...bigots she dared that his achievements withstand…'forgotten sieve'. A woman of high character who with his death did not exploit him by seeking personal fame But with determination…picked up the baton that the 'ruffage' should not taint his name. I see her…don’t you? a soldier…as she arrived on higher shores I hear the shouts of saints and angels who welcomed her with loud applause. I see her…don’t you? stepping first to reverence her Savior and Lord Who takes her hand…leading her to him… that has been waiting with patient accord. Coretta Scott King was such a beautiful woman so many ways. Your tribute is beautifully writ and the way she would wanted it written. It's hard to believe that she passed away 2006. It seems as though she were still alive. In the three years I spent teaching at Atlanta University Center, I never saw her, but I did see both MLK, Junior's father and MLK, III in the Center bookstore one day, when he was just a freshman, starting college.

An enterprising Kenyan MBA student, Solo Ogado, an Atlanta cabdriver among other things, confided in me one day. "You know, Dr. Hull, when I worked at an extermination company, when we went to Mrs. King's house, there were a lot of roaches."

Having lived in the southern climes for 41 years now, I have found that the large flying roaches are part of our natural environment and enjoy the comfort of hidden places in our houses. No one is immune to these roaches, regardless of status in society. I'm sure that Coretta Scott King was too busy with all of her civic duties to spend a lot of time with housework. Why she hired exterminators.
