An angel came to me one night.
Her face was filled with bright sunlight.
Her eyes were like moonbeams.
She was the perfect one for me.
At least that's how it seemed.
She called my name. She held my hand.
I thought I'd been redeemed.

An angel came to me one night
so very long ago.
She taught me how to live just right
and how to feel the flow.
But now she's gone back to that place
where all the angels go.
There was no room for her among
the creatures here below.

Angel come down, and show me the way.
Angel come down. I need you today.

Gone the Angel. Gone the Dove.
Gone the Answers from Above.
Sometimes I don't know what I was thinking of.
And all I ever needed was someone to love.

Angel come down, and show me the way.
Angel come down. I need you today.

I was standing in my back yard
in the middle of the night.
I was praying for the answers
with all of my might.
Trying to find the difference
between what's wrong and right,
and hoping that some distant star
would send me down a light.

Angel come down, and show me the way.
Angel come down. I need you today.

Gone the Angels. Gone the Dove.
Gone the Empire from Above.
Sometimes I don't know what I was thinking of.
And all I ever needed was someone to love.

Angel come down, and show me the way.
Angel come down. I need you today.

I was standing in my back yard
complaining to the Sky.
My fists were clenched in anger.
A tear was in my eye.
The Sky, it gave no answer.
I really wondered why.
If there's no reason left to live
then why can't I just die?

Angel come down, and show me the way.
Angel come down. I need you today.

Come the Raven. Gone the Dove.
Gone the Angels from Above.
Sometimes I think that I've had quite enough.
And all I ever wanted was someone to love.

Angel come down, and show me the way.
Angel come down. I need you today.

Angel come down, and show me the way.
Angel come down. I need you today.

This was my "losing my religion" song.

I am the rich young ruler.
I have built my house on the sand.
I put my hand to the plow and turned away.
And I cried "Lord, Lord, Lord",
but Nobody heard my voice.
