It seems that some people were born
to follow their dreams
while others were born to be responsible.
I was born to be a working man.
Some time ago I kind of gave up on my dreams
to avoid the frustration and disappointment.
The last time I tried to pursue my dreams
I got thrown under the bus
by a couple of a--holes I thought were my friends. 😞
I have wounds in my back that will never heal
and a heart filled with bitterness, and fear.
I try not to think about it too much though,
and I've pretty much accepted my lot in life.
Though sometimes it still bothers me, I guess,
mostly when I drink, and my self control is weak.
I go to a lot of local music shows.
I have a great time watching my friends up on the stage.
But sometimes, sometimes I feel envious.
I wish it was me that was up there.
And sometimes I hear my friends complaining
that they don't have much money,
that they didn't have time for a family.
And it occurs to me
that no one gets everything they want.
We all choose between some things that we want
and other things that we want.
Some people make those choices consciously.
Other people make them without realizing it.
Many of my friends chose to follow their dreams.
I chose to be a working man.
And as I look back on my life,
and think of all the things I wanted but didn't get,
I realize
that I chose the thing I wanted most. 💖

I often wish that I could be a musician again,
and I wish that my love life was like it used to be.
But I dreamed last night I was playing drums in a club somewhere
and some young, attractive woman was coming on to me
(I'm not sure what she was after. I was obviously too old for her.),
and all that I kept thinking was: I would rather be with my wife.
David Hightower’s lyrically expansive meditation on the whims of fate and the unpredictability of the human condition fill the pages of THE HANGING MAN DREAMS with thrilling music and mesmerizing imagery. Hightower’s richly infused voice echoes the e
