Poem Artwork

I stand in the driveway filled
With hesitation
Thanking the lord for one more visitation
Who am I
As they looked through their window
And wave good-bye--

I turn away and begin to cry
Who am I
My God given right or, so I thought--
Reduced by the hypocrisy and rules of court
Who am I
Their wants and needs drive me

to achieve
Their innocent curiosity and questions

lead me to seek knowledge . . .
So that I may provide answers--
Which may help them to discover

understanding
Who am I
I am and always will be . . . Daddy

Richie's heart and soul is evident in this poem. It speaks to the sadness so many men feel, but with a remarkable strength that only a Dad can have. Thank you for sharing this incredible poem.

God bless you, both. Kathy

Daddy...Daddy, Daddy! What a wonderful position in life to have; make that name all-important for your children, Richard. An intense, emotional, yet beautiful poem.

Dad, that often forgotten creature inside an old family drawer, where Mom, Aunties and assorted of the same kind take the stage and the spot lights.
To be a Dad and shout it from the roof's tops it what is needed.
Bravo! ! !

Georg

yes a great poem William, I think like this at times when I'm around my loved ones, I try to set a good example, but it takes courage not to slap someone who deserves it. In May I will be going to my brothers birthday party, I have a nephew that everyone in the family wants to straightened out. Last time I saw him, he disrespected his father and I real bad so I had to straightened the boy out. Fifteen years back I would have beat his behind so would his father. His older brother wants to beat his behind also. But I told him to avoid the violent part as much as possible. You know how it was with us on the street, use physical force and deadly force as the last resort.I'm gong to set a good example for my nephews, when I see him I'm going to hug him and tell him I love him and say nothing else, leave the stupid stuff on him and if it gets too bad my wife and I will leave the party. My older brother and I didn't get along too good for years, he's the one the party is for, but now we do in our older years because I gave up being too mean, even if it is deserved.
Now I hug my older brother and overlook his foolishness. But guess what, the same off the hook nephew that I'm telling you about, tried to play match maker between his father and I for years, now he can't even get along with his older brother. The sins of the father have been consumed by the sins of the son. My older brother was always real jealous of me,this is why we didn't get along. My nephew has the same problem with his older brother, sibling rivalry and jealousy. His older brother was a Marine and now he's a stand up guy, the nephew in question has never did anything but loaf around. Last time I straightened my nephew out he threatened to use his nine milimeter on me, but I told his little no good behind I could take my thirty eight with six bullets and wear his behind out, I'm a marksman, that boy probably have even taken time to learn how to shoot a nine milimeter just like he has taken time to do anything else, I'll hug him before I have to kill him

This is a poignant write--so many fathers are forgotten in the battles to be a part of their children's lives--my brother is an advocate for men in this situation
