Waiting to be Glean

~*~

Relaxing kicking it old style

Like a couch potato

Lounging watching a favorite

Old movie”Christine”.

Out of nowhere

Out of the clear blue sky

Out of left field

Or was it from stage right.

Anyway there he appeared

Uninvited

Into the center of my every thought

There he sat staring me down

Interrupting my peace of mind

My sanity.

I am aware

Of being in my golden years

Yeah right! “Golden years”

Who ever thought of that phrase?

Nothing golden

About my aches and pains

Aging like an old abandon

Classic car

Rusting out though and through.

He sits there silently

Saying it all without a word

Leaving all the wondering to me

As I cough my head off

Till almost unconsciousness

Due to a severe chest cold.

I start looking at my hands and feet

At my body

For it ain’t nothing like it

Used to be.

At my age I start to wonder

Of when is he finally

Entering my room

I know he has been staked

Outside my door biting my time

For it’s not his

He possesses nothing

Not even time.

Just doing what he was brought into

This world for

Reap and Glean me from

The space I dwell in

For him, he just clearing the fields

For other souls to occupy.

Just dig out the old cuffs and shut this bad guy down, like in the old days William, you still have a long journey ahead of you.

A GREAT WRITE WILLIAM AND ...SHOOO...TO THAT GRIM REAPER. LOOK CLOSER WILLIAM...SHUT YOUR EYES AND LOOK HARD...THE LORD AND GIVER OF LIGHT IS THERE. ...'JUST DOING WHAT HE WAS BROUGHT INTO THIS WORLD TO DO' YOU SAY?...CONSIDER THIS; THE 'CREATED' IS NEVER GREATER THAN THE 'CREATOR'. LOOK TO THE CREATOR...SHOOO...TO THAT GRIM REAPER! BLESSINGS TO YOU WILLIAM AND THANKS FOR SHARING.

I agree with Felix....as I age, I seem to become more attuned to what may be on the other side....Very well written, my friend. I sure hope you're feeling better soon.

Be fearless and face this ogre on still ground. You have the upper hand and knowingh what you see in the mirror is you....then you've won that race. I love the words in your poem. Soul searching always brings out the bubbles in the wash.

Susan

William,
Ignore him, he's just a bully trying to intimidate and like all bullies you can call his bluff; I've had a few visits from him, too, but kicked his ass.
Get better soon.

John

As we age we see the spectre of that dark shroud always nearby, funny after awhile when the aches and pains become more frequent a part of our lifes...he almost seems like a friend standing by in case we need him.

William, only those of us in a certain age can understand with clarity about the follies of 'Golden Age.' An excellent perspective on our future.

Don't look him in the eye what ever you do. Oh and change your door number with your neighbor's.

Well done, Gerry

You gotta look him in the face, and laugh. Then he'll scamper off to bother someone else.

I don't feel that it is your time William, you are just having some bumps along the road...Just take two and call me in the morning..
Look that damn reaper can go to haitis if you ask me. He is knocking on the wrong door. NOW SNAP OUTTA IT!!!!
Get off the couch, get warm and take a look at the beautiful starlit skies, now make a wish and the Universe will listen..
I wish you all the healing energy that the Universe can send and lots of light, love, and peace! I don't know what I would do without you, so you have to go and get better.
xo and warmest hugs
