In regressing here this evening
Thinking over days gone by
Living life with dignity
Taking stress in stride
I've found that unimportant things
Were given up to chance
For details are a memory
I settled for a slow dance
To taste the heady passions
To smell the blooming flowers
To climb a tree when I chose
Get soaked in April showers
To take a trip to Europe
Having never left my home
With a Gypsy spirit antsy
My curiousity roamed
I met the rich and famous
I felt the desert air
I tripped the light fantastic
Because I have no fear
In case you might be wondering
Why I took such chance
Those details now are memories
I opted for this slow dance.

Beautiful-hmm May I have that slow dance too? :-) I imagine writing like this I will have to wait in line!
I have been reminded recently, Susan, that I have been given only one life...and hat the decisions I have to make in this life are mine to make. if I donlt take them, then I'll never know what I have missed. So slow dances and chances are on my agenda...memories in the making. Thanks so much for reminding me...and taking that dance just slightly ahead of me paving the way with this terrific work of art. I feel your colors dancing too!

Beautiful dance, Susan, stunning presentation and form! So you think you can dance, like the title of the show implies? You do...boy, do you ever! A marvelous work. Thank you!

Poetic grace and beauty... Bet you dance slow real well too...
The strands of a waltz shift through my head as I was reading this, the waltz is romance, love , passion all rolled into one and your poem captures this. I can still recall the first time as a young boy of no more then 12/13 with sweaty palms I waltzed for the first time with a pretty little girl. I can remember the last time I danced with my mother before she passed away, I can remember the first time I slow danced with my wife, the Father/daughter waltz at my daughters wedding. All landmarks that until I read your poem I did not realize how important they were to me. Thank you Susan
We truly are sisters!;-) This is another of your sweet and sassy poems from times that remind us of why we will always be willing to be hurt, because we have no fear to dare! A keeper Susan!
Isn't it grand to pick and choose what and when we feel comfort in remembering. Mind and soul combine to present us with a soothing peace of spirit. This poem is very optimistic, and graceful, realistic and authentic..........written with intelligence, and heart.
Here's to all the best of melodies...........

okay, not only am I saving this to my computer, but I'm printing it out and keeping it amongst my favorite poetry books! Are we living the same life?! This poem absolutely delights me and rings so true in my own life. Your wording flows so beautifully! This made my night and I will enjoy it for the rest of my life! Thank you so very much.
And, in your long and wondrous slow dance, you take us into a smooth and loving trance, breathing the fine construction of another de Vegter masterwork! In Georgia language; it's a goodun' - and I like it!

When you sit down to compose you must allow your mind to go into a deep well of memories and dreams and experiences, then you begin typing out the words. Then you begin to work magic with your fingers. Then you out perform simple poets such as myself. You NEVER write a bad one . . . How the hell do you DO that?
Rosetta was born in 1909 as the youngest of ten children. The family had more laughter than money and neighbors would knock on their door to ask, "Can we come in and laugh, too?"
A passionate and poignant memoir written by a woman whose life has been guided by the words: "I am here to learn how to love well." The book is a deep examination of relationships, family, motivation, and honoring of the Self.
I truly adored this write! HUGS! SC
