I awakened one morning to the Associated Press and the story of love...true love in Ireland and the curse of religion and it's boundaries. I love Ireland like a second home . I've met her people and traveled her countryside and still am awed at the fever some have with the religious bondaries of hatred.
This particular fated love still haunts me, for religion teaches against judging others and somehow, this most dearest of hearts are fated for trespassing those boundaries.
Please copy and paste this link into your browser and listen to Ireland's own, Mary Black and "The Holy Ground Took Care of Everything". It will give much more meaning to my humble poem.
Shadow dancing figures
Dark grays upon the walls
Enveloped and intermingled
Flowing down the halls
Celtic embrace of lovers
Mutually... involved
Ghosts with sepulchers ever caught
No mystery here to solve
Theory died with their love
These two now dance above
For wars are cold for lovers
Whose hearts are put on hold
She the lassie of Belfast
He of Protestant born
Her Catholic life outspoken
Because of someone's son
They ran in shadows, darting lights
They hid their hearts each day
Their every thought to sneak aboard
A ship and sail away
Their love was born in honesty
Without the hint of hate
Emotion twisted into briars...
Worn like open fate
They went against the grain to love
Their purity was just
They went to sleep one fateful night
Their tears then turned to rust
The footsteps of a stealthful pair
Came steely up the stairs
Then bullets tore their hearts apart
Yet bonded them in tears
They justified their love just then
By being souls above
The hatred of their fathers' land
Blessed with their fated love
They dance eternally for fate
Gave them a second chance
To openly engage all hearts
To win...perchance to dance
They whirl in halls with fluted sounds
That echo off the stone
They love forever without shame
Their hearts secure at home
They weave their silent message
As Shadows fall on the walls
"Welcome to all lovers"
Who hear this fated call
Love is born pure at birth
It's given for a purpose
It can't be politically justified
For hearts should not be cursed
If you love and it is pure
Then nothing matters when
Religion, wars ,caste systems...
Are judged by bittered kin
Love is one thing God gave us
To weave our hearts together
It waltzes now in silent halls
Their fated souls still tethered
The Celtic knot speaks for souls
Whenever love entwines
No beginning or an ending
Just infinite over time
So heed the call for love of hearts
Take down this awful ban
Give back true love to rusted tears
In Eire this true love stands!
No more dodging shadows ...
Hiding in the dark
For Catholic forms with Protestants
For true love in common hearts.
So unnecessarily sad their demise over a pointless political battle...but they dared to love despite the risk and conditions, and their love was greater than any war and far more significant to those of us who despise the walls man builds against himself. It's worth the risk. Fantastic pen, susan...
Love,
Taylor
I agree Love is free of all the boundaries mankind seeks unendingly to place upon it and neither religion or government can control it.
You say this so well! Love Pierre.

I can add this to my list of why I detest politics and the wars which result from such man made stupidity. But, in the end love conquers all. Look at the grace freely offered to us all through His selfless sacrifice and love. Woe unto any man who stands in the way of love! A fabulous poem Susan!

Quite an intresting write you have here.Excellent!
WOW!!! Richard actually KNOWS IONA??? Didn't realise they are so well-travelled, and Book of Kells is also one of my favourite albums. Yep, yep... all this terrorist atrocity stuff that is maybe dubbed as "an internal foreign threat" has always sat uncomfortable with me, Susan, feeling that our own hands in such things are not entirely clean and white. And you hightlight most poignantly here the postion of the Romeo and Juliet in us all, when it comes to love, politics and religion. The heart is neither politician nor priest. Beautifully wrought, thank you. K xx
Now, the key to being able to obey and implement the scripture, in your image, is understanding just how it is that Christ loves us. Unconditionally and without prejudice or favoritism I would imagine.
Your write reminded me of the lyrics from a song entitled "Revelation" by one of my all time favorite bands IONA. They come from that area.
"Waiting for the spirit of Truth to tell
Power on earth to stand in the face of hell
Waiting for the sky to clear
Waiting for the sun to appear
Waiting to see You
Waiting to hear You
Waiting for vision to see
Your Revelation ..."
Your poem is incredible, and reminds me, in convoluted ways, of the fated love between Romeo and Juliet, and the infamous Holy Wars. Will there ever be a revelation of Christs love, and will people ever be able to see one another in that light?
It is tragic that war and hatred are spread beneath the banner of religion. Yes it could be argued that the continuing conflict with the resulting deaths of men, women, children and babies is political but the heads of these mighty religions have and have always had the power to stop and cease this war yet they ignore it in hopes that there respective sides will win. Love as you say should be free of all and allowed to grow wherever the seed falls. Strong and emotional write my friend.
It is sad that even two who love each other can be caught up within a war of religions and for it to be among people of the same country and yet they are unable to escape the tragedy of religion within war...death is where love has no wars.......
nice work on this view of love and war....Art Sun...
When Catholics, who are the majority, are given the same opportunities for work that protestants have, and are able to belong to the politics of the country, then peace may be attained. Putting that aside, love should blossom without fear of retaliation from either side.
Susan, outstanding work! Not just a splendid poem, it is filled with great advice on how love is meant to be viewed, not with religious, political, or cultural differences. People have the right to their own choices and if mistakes are made they will pay for it. There should be no boundaries~! Fine work!

I never believed the war between Catholics and Protestants in N. Ireland was of religion. It is more politican and also on hate. The atrocities that took place there are terrible. I also think there were outside forces using the dtrife to destabilise the kingdom. Your story is a tragedy, your poem so well written. Let's hope there'll be peace there. Victor
Neil Armstrong played the Dissolution of America Card After His Return From Space-- the Military Dishonor Card. He had a very messy DIVORCE after a military Platoon Experience for his wife and family.
