I found this tree while on a fishing trip with my father and uncle to North Georgia.
There's a tree high in the mountains which once was just a tree
Now it stands and grows so proudly and shares this new personality
The heart of it is showing with tightly bonded letters
It smiles like it is human although that doesn't matter
Only to these two lovers whose names immortalize
The initials of these spirits who made her bark their prize
She stands with force a plenty, their passion now she carries
Along with inner voices that spirits up and married
No legal words for riches and treasures etched in bark
Its a written word of promise and the passions with their spark
Its the sacred oath of lovers who share in natures way
The promises of hearts to hold with growing day to day
In a secret hidden cove where the rhododendron blooms
In the bowers of her foliage when the mighty thunder booms
In the spring or in the winters, in the fall when leaves turn gold
Their hearts immortal promise gives warmth to all the cold
Their tree is but the foothold and speaks of love so true
In the mountain cove for lovers lives but, this silent clue
Of the two whose hearts beat freely in a cadence-echoed sound
In this cove high on Blood Mountain, love grows on sacred ground.
Took me to a line from the Beatles' song, 'No one else is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low'.
When I was a kid I had a tree that I used to retreat to, climb up to a thick fork in the branches, and sit watching time slip quietly by. Not so much my name but my footprints were tattooed into the the forearm of this tree.
Spark of nostalgia in this prose, Susan.

How perfectly romantic to find this simple symbol of love and then be moved to write such a lovely poem about your impressions of discovering it. I like the way you draw the connection between nature and human love in this. Your word choice is creative and unique. Great poem!

"Of the two whose hearts beat freely in a cadence echoed sound..." this line alone is a treasure to save and cherish in my heart forever, combined with all the rest of the perfect lines in this write I am in awe. Well done my sweet dear Susan.

A very romantic write, Susan. I could almost envision this pair, feeling so much love and carving away at the tree to leave their mark for the future. Makes you wonder what happened between them in the ensuing years. Well done.

A beautiful tribute to undying love. Brings wonderful thoughts that they are still together and make a yearly pilgrimage to renew this vow. A heart warming write. Lady J
Your love for love in the mountains shines through. This is an enchanting tale of two who left their mark. Blood mountain as its dark side, including a movie using the words in its title. You redeem all the bad about that part of our mountains. I love the tale you tell or this tale of two back in '93. - bill
