We all have friends and if we're lucky then we have them for life. There are some of us who want more than friendship and the risk then becomes a wager becomes terrifying for many hearts.
I need to write
I need to get it all out
Yet I'm pensive
Scared of what may really...
Dwell in my thoughts for you.
It's all buried deep
Somewhere in an abyss of respect
That private place
That place where I keep thoughts of you safe
The place where my shine is born.
I'm terrified of thinking

Scared of purging what is really

Sis you give us one to ponder as I too have so often done on this very subject. I don't think anyone has all the answers, because it is always a personal choice we make according to our personalities traits, etc. We will all approach it in different ways since we are all unique. An excellent pen of one of life's most heart-piercing thorns, Susan. But, in the Biblical context, "perfect love casts out fear" and if the depth of friendship has brought you to a place of honest trust and vulnerability, then perhaps anything is permissable without it jeopardising what you have already. Shared feelings openly expressed on both sides might solder the relationship even more. And it will help "get over" the present dilemma. Sorry, this is not an Agony Aunt spot, but it shows how deeply you draw us in to this ever-present dichotomy. A winning poem thoughtfully expressed. TY Kate xx
There is something of the 'how can i go forward when i don't know which way you're facing?' feel to this introspection.
Looking from the outside in. Someone occupies close social proximity to our lives, so close that our vision becomes obscured. The question is asked: which way is he or she facing? Dare that question be asked?
At this intensity, it's more than the lyrics of a Browne song that's needed, such a drama deserves a full symphony even a libreto.
This is a one act heart play awaiting a second act resolution - if ever.

I've known friends for a long time that I shared my life with then to suddenly have to make a chose when they wanted more then what I was willing to give. It's hard to let one go that has spoiled me in many ways yet I also couldn't lead them on by not being fully honest. It's a tuff place. Good thought and write. Lady J
