I ache for quiet comfort in the fields of yesterday
I tense up at the terror times where once I made my bed
I see the happy witness to a world making it’s way
Yet the truth be told it wasn’t as bad as the memory here today
We tend to back paddle the past with an ache for twice the emotion
Twice the pain, twice the love and twice wicked devotion
We miss the little details each day along the way
That made our hopes and our fears what we are today.

Aching for what was - aching for a better today and tomorrow.
Let's fill our life with gladness and lessen the sorrow.
Keeping the memories and dreams alive within our hearts.

We miss the little details each day along the way
That made our hopes and our fears what we are today.

I think it really is the small memorable details etched forever into our minds that make us what we are. I usually find comfort in the really good ones.

And I'm glad you got a laugh about hair, today!

Susan - I've gone back and read this one several times, because I wanted to think a bit about your classic words, and how you've given them to us. Each time I read it, I have two emotions; proud envy, and an overwhelming attack of nostalgia! You have created a wonderful thing, here, and it's worth preserving for all who might be bettered by reading it. You're hardly old enough to think such thoughts, much less, be able to put them into rhyme and meter so effectively. Other than all of that, it's just another poem... but it is far, far more, and I am deeply proud to know you. Love from Old - Bill

Time, and our minds have a way of dimming the bad times.
Maybe, just maybe the good ole days weren't as good as we'd like to remember.

I, too, yearn for the simpler times, when people cared: you didn't have to worry about neighbors as much, you could leave your house and car unlocked and nobody would bother you, you could believe a man's word...sad, that's all changed now in these days of terror. An excellent, profoundly moving reminiscence...very well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Susan as always your writes capture and often reflect a part of my own thoughts or perhaps I refect yours. I think we all tend to remember things the way our hearts would like us to perceive them...whether for better or worst.
