I was liked by all my teachers and many said I had wonderful "potential".
What the heck! It's all an opinion anyway!

Beautiful pictures inspire me
From days gone with wisdom to share
For teachings of old that appeared neglected
Seemed wiser from thoughts in my head
I never was much on attention
While daydreams acted their role
The teacher would clout all the facts for us kids
While thinking for me was much bolder
I'd hear her off in the distance
Seemed she rapped with marvelous applause
In my head just as she was teaching
I'd mentor aloud just because
The class would all roar in laughter
Then bring me back to my feet
Embarrassed and red from this lesson
I was offered the floor to teach
With yardstick held over my shoulders
I'd glamorize her rule of thumb
End up with the attention of many
Then sent to the corner a Dunce
She'd catch my attention by banging her fist
Upon her oak desk with a sway
I'd offer up as a visionary
Give more information that way
I knew I'd missed what she taught me
With bowed head condesending in sorrow
Then I'd have the last word..so help me God
With ideas just for tomorrow
Afterall I was a visionary
With much wiser thinking than many
A Pisces of eager perception
A dreamer from many demensions
A kid just thinking in poetry
A blonde with freckles enmass
Smart as a whip...so help me God
Then offer "ya'll can just kiss my ass".
I love that you were feisty then and feisty now!!! Doesn't matter about then, it's who you are now that counts. And that is a pretty wonderful woman!

Susan, this so reminded me of myself, always day dreaming and ready to speak out and to get my point across. I enjoyed every line in this...it brought back many memories of my school days.
What a great way to cover up not paying attention....LOL

Susan, I think yours is the tale of us all here who dreamt and breathed in poetry, aspiring to colossal heights, knowing that even our shadows may someday--if we labor hard enough--become rarefied and ethereal. Great poem.
I followed the rules, and bent them at every opportunity, still do. A good friend of mine told me [some years ago], it is easier to get forgiveness than permission. He knew me well.
I admire you for this, I was always too scared and reserved in grade school to voice my thoughts, although I was allways thinking about deeper things in life than what my teachers were talking about. It wasn't till high school that I began to elaborate on my views on life and voice my feelings openly. I haven't stopped talking since then.
I was an above average student in an average class. I wasn't challenged then. When I got to middle school that was adjusted. I became a good debater and my Civic's teacher said he thought I would make a good lawyer or politician. I guess being in marketing and medias is all part of that world. I made my point in school and also was respected as an individual. It was imported to get that understanding from other students and my teachers. I was the teacher's pet with many of my grade teachers. I wasn't sassy. I was making a point then and now.
Oooh, if I had told my teachers what kids tell theirs nowadays, I'd a' been buried UNDERNEATH the school grounds! Kids today are rude, disrespectful, and in DESPERATE need of a good butt paddling!! Sad when teachers can't even discipline a trouble-making student without the risk of an angry parent or the CPS runnin' up their asshole! God help us!

If I'd a told my teachers...whew, they would have BURIED me. LOL Nowadays, commonplace for students to sass teachers. The world a better place for having the visionary that is Susan deVegter! :) Well done.
OMG Susan this brings back so many memories for me, I think the world is fortunate we were not in the same school as kids for I think we may have ended up leading a revolt. I too was considered the class oddity and comedian and looking back I would love to find my grade nine Literature teacher who told me I would never amount to anything and make her a gift of my three published books. Great write that sure gives a clue into the little girl in you still.

Oh boy, oh boy, sounds like a freckled-face Jerry Bolton with all that attention span (not) and I basically told 'em all to do the same thing as you did in your oh, so correct, literary way . . . Gotta love it . . .

I wish I could say I was an average student
cuz I wasn't, I spend 4 periods of my school days
In the deans office, for various trumped up charges
By several teachers, now is that a cop out or what???
I wish I could say I was an average student
But I wasn't, I graduated from the "school of hard knocks"
Just a little ranting of me own.
Love & peace be with you
