I see in the mirror a face,
One I do not recognize,
One that has lonely eyes,
Eyes as distant as Summer skies,
And a look that speaks of ages,
Times long past and gone,
Times that are foggy memories,
Slowly faded in washed degrees.
I know that man,
I remember him as being much younger,
Of being more full of hopes and dreams,
Than that distant eye now seems.
Perhaps it is only a delusion,
Perhaps those memories are not real,
Perhaps that face is not who it seems,
Perhaps it is only a vision of older dreams.
Oh, well, I was sure I knew that man,
Whose once youthful gleam was bright,
But I feel now I was mistaken,
And from this dream must awaken.
Funny how refelections can deceive,
How memories can influence,
How hope can bring mirages,
Of old thoughts from our mind's garages.
Well, I will not look again,
As I am sure I do not know that face,
And I do not want see,
Because I fear that face is me!
