YOU'RE STILL NEEDED
I've tried to live my life
so that one day you'd both say,
“If I could pick anyone as my father,
I'd have picked you every single day.”
Your granddad would be one hundred.
Your momma? Almost sixty five.
And, I'm sure our world would differ,
if they both were still alive.
Life didn't work out that way,
so it does little good to ponder,
but if Dad had lived to teach me,
would things have differed, I wonder?
Would his words of wisdom,
when I might have needed correction,
better have prepared me
to push you in the right direction?
And, if you hadn't lost your mom,
when still just in your teens,
you'd both have all her wisdom,
at least, to me that's how it seems.
Still, I guess we're quite lucky,
there are some in dire straits.
So far, we've been able to handle
anything heaped upon our plates.
We always pull together
whenever there's a need.
It's much thicker than water,
this family blood we bleed.
So during these troubled times,
in our struggle to survive,
try to keep in mind we're fortunate,
cause at least we're still alive.
You are both still needed,
you’re not to the end of your line.
You’ve both still more to give
though I’m running short on time.
One day you’ll be looking back
at those bringing up your rear.
I hope you’ll be as proud of them
as I was of you, while I was here.

If this is what happens when a person shies away from being a banker,
let's hope more bankers take the leap!!
What a terrible shame it would have been to let talent like this
lie.
Rhyme works great, and the message is loud and clear. {A n d gentle and sweet:)}
Keep 'em comin' !!
