Christy, my 17 year old grand daughter,
stopped for a short visit, last week.
Half way out the door, she said
“You didn’t say you love me….”

I needed for her to know,
of all the things in her lifetime
which she might eventually screw up,
that is not one of them….

It’s just not possible!
You’ll never be able
to screw up badly enough
that Grampy would stop loving you.

That’s not to say you’ll never disappoint me,
or that I’ll always agree
with everything you do with your life.
Or, Visa versa… Nobody is perfect!

But, I want you to always remember,,,,

“You don’t stop loving someone
just because you disagree with them,
you don’t stop loving them,
just because they disappointed you.”

“Shit happens,”
then you move on.
So, what I say,,,,
is this…..

“I’m sure you’ve been upset
with your mom,
or with your dad,
but you didn’t stop loving them because of it.

We’re blood.... We always will be.
No matter where your life takes you,
always remember Grampy loves you.
And I know,,,, you’ll always love me.”

So, then I wrote her this poem
