Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is regarded as a rite of passage but it is no less than a crime against humanity commensurate with acts of genocide since this act itself is killing the sexuality of an entire gender belonging to a certain religion or tribe who are victimised for the sole reason of being female. When a girl is circumcised she will undergo a series of pain through out her life. Some girls die right on the spot from excessive bleeding when FGM is performed. Many communities around the world are still practising FGM thus causing tremendous harm to their beloved daughters. FGM is a crime and anyone who carries it out on hor or her girls should pay the price. An issue of major concern is that FGM is being transported now to other locations as far away as Europe and America through migration and that is a very serious case as parents who circumcise their daughters in those nations will face severe punishment. Everything is globalizing these days and claiming new spaces in new lands but we should not allow crime to find sanctuary anywhere in the globe. Anyway here in this poem a lady is expressing her feelings regarding FGM which she herself has undergone at a very early age of her life. She wants to stop this systematic extermination of women’s sexual rights or SEXOCIDE as I like to call it. FGM also causes enormous health and psychological hazards and should be stopped. Please let us unite our voice to save millions of women who are subjected to this horrible act. Being a nominated Strong Voice for Amnesty International I have a greater responsibility to double my efforts to end FGM in Europe and throughout the world in general.
Born in the dark
Brought up in pain
I have a scar in my soul
As part of me has been cut
Mutilated and stitched
With no hope to recover
Where is my clitoris?
Where has it gone?
Has it been buried?
Or just thrown away?
I wish I knew
Only half of me is alive
My other half is gone
In the name of culture
I am an impaired lady
Unable to enjoy sex
As wholly as a total woman
But through the tears of despair
Rays of hope are cutting across
One day sanity shall return
Humanity shall reign
FGM shall be eradicated
But until then let us fight
Let us save our daughters
let us stop sexocide.

Thank you for bringing this to light. Reminds me of the women in Pakistan and Afghanistan who get acid thrown into their faces to purposely disfigure them forever for committing such heinous crimes like disobeying their husband's orders.
I have heard of this before and it is another atrocity against women in the name of religion or whatever. We need to get out of the dark ages. But it may never happen.
Be well my friend,
You've written about FGM before, Abdi-Noor, and I recall it well but I'm glad you've returned to it as it's a crime that needs more exposure and constant condemnation.
Serial killer Ted Bundy's murders recounted from the perspective of thirty years after his execution in a Florida prison.
Brutal, compelling, with new updated facts about the case, his victims and the compulsions that drove Ted Bundy to mass murder.

PI novel set in Manhattan during the 1980s when art galleries and model agencies were the two most glamorous businesses in the world. Dangerously well written.
