My friend you may ask yourself why does she need to cover her head but you should know that this piece of cloth is more of an identity item than a mere covering of the head. If she had a state with functional institutions that can guarantee the safety of the citizen or able to provide them with valid documents to identify themselves, the Somali woman in the West would have felt relaxed. May the World See our plight!
She is disturbed by loss of identity
Petrified by anxiety of fading hope
Baffled by changing winds of time
In her sleep "Who am I?" haunts her
She has nothing to prove her identity
No papers, no ID card no passport
She is a Somali mother in the West
She is a stateless refugee
Hijab is her identification paper
Separation of which is no less than a loss
