the owner of the house
spread his daily bread with lies
laying it on thick and sweet
fodder for all the flies
their mouths opened wide
their ears perked up
and the blood of the damned
poured forth in a flood
the flies feasted on the word of the day
where truth did not matter
as long as they could get their way
when the carcass was picked clean
and bones were all that remained
the flies picked them up
and clubbed each other in dismay
soon death proceeded to stink up the house
where the owner was left
with just a squeaky little mouse
and the two of them cried
all the way to the bank
it wasn’t our fault,
as bread knows no thanks
Excellent piece. I agree with Nordette. These days on AD you have to be very careful what you post or how you comment. The blind apply the write to the wealthy without seeing their own greed. Too many "spread their daily bread with lies," and loving the taste, will never give them up.
my but there are layers of perception and possible meaning in this ...your creative use of imagery and metaphor are excellent. This is a good analogy to these troubled times, but anyone experienceing personal issues can relate as well. Splendid work, lady poet.
Greed and more greed .. shame shame but that is what happens to many times as the rich get richer at the expense of others and never look back,,

This is a powerful, well-written poem. I confess that I was almost afraid to comment because I didn't know to whom it was directed. These days on AD, if you comment on a poem positively or negatively, for all you know you may be perceived to be taking a side in a war of which you know nothing, and if you did, you'd be neutral. Next thing you know, people are boycotting your Den and you don't know why. It's quite childish.

Sara, if there were a humanitarian award metal to be handed out for telling it like it is, you’d easily win it, “hands down!” Far too often, the whole truth has been overlooked or trampled down, just for the sake of the almighty green back. How in the world can this continue unhindered, without also first clamping down upon the unsubstantiated vicious rumors and innuendoes that go unchallenged? There are always two sides to the story, yet when only one side is given the opportunity to speak, all the pertinent issues do become clouded and fully obscured in a mass of confusion and misstatements. You’ve done an excellent job, my friend. Thank you for sharing another concerned voice. Take good care and be well.
I have no idea what your message is about but I have a feeling you are making a statement through this poem. Your imaginative use of metaphor is to be commended. I especially liked
"spread his daily bread with lies
laying it on thick and sweet
fodder for all the flies"
The ending left me feeling confused. Once again I am needing a helping hand to understand your allegory.
Love to you
