in the silence of my heart
I tried to make a night bird sing
but all it could muster was a teeny tiny tweet
every day I would lure it with tasty little treats
telling it stories of beauty, beauty that was skin deep
but all I would get was an occasional bleep
forming the words to love is vacant, loves asleep
soon my mind took over where my heart left off
driving itself through life’s confused and scary course
some were real journeys to lands, not dreams
where heart and head fought over my screams
and the gifts within my head oh that I know
like blessings of skills that make all rivers flow
they filled my time with tasks and chores
always creating new adventures both in and outdoors
but every now and every then
my heart would silence what was in my head
until I could finally hear that teeny tiny voice
whispering tweet tweet life can be so sweet
as long as you let it make the right choice.
