LIFE HAPPENS (My Story) was published in August, 2010. This is the poem that begins the book which contains short stories along with poetry, all describing my experiences, some happy, some sad, and some laugh-out-loud funny but all are 'true life'.

*POETICALLY CORRECT* I’ve never been accused of being poetically correct with the words that I have written or the poems that I select. My poems and stories don’t always have a purpose, though some have hidden meanings, unseen from the surface. Writing is a pleasure, but it’s also my release. Not only does it relax me, I’m able to share my beliefs. Most of my life has been fun and I wanted that to show. I wanted to share it with my family and many others that I know. I have a story to tell and I prefer to make it rhyme. It’s the story of Donna, told one verse at a time. Born in West Virginia as a poor coal miner’s daughter, she may have lacked material things, but not the love of her mother or father. They all moved to Kentucky when she was very small. There she thrived and grew, as she became a friend to all., High school brought love from that very special boy. They’d marry and have babies, then fill their house with joy. But first it was off to war, in a place called Vietnam. While she sat home and waited, he was off serving Uncle Sam. They wrote letters every day, pouring out their love. They shared all their dreams, praying for help from up above. Her husband finally came home, then off to Michigan they went. She started at the bank. working hard to pay the rent. They had their first child as life continued on. Lots of work and little play, for both her and husband Don. Then came a second child, their family was complete. Both a son and adaughter, the American dream, nice and neat. Children oftentimes get sick, mostly, in the middle of the night. She rocked and soothed each one, never allowing them to see her fright. The children grew into teens, which is when they become a chore. She survived and continued to smile, never showing either child the door. But, there were losses in her world, life happens every day. First her father, then her sister, too young, they passed away. Jobs change, moves are made, life continues to rack up the miles. She always looked for the silver lining forever clinging to her smile. Finally, they came upon retirement looking forward to the sun. To golf and relaxing in the south, which is where the two had run. It was like being kids again, until he was diagnosed with cancer. He left her soon thereafter, lots of questions needing answers. She’d covered many facets of a life she thought she was winning but now she was in her 60’s facing a brand new beginning. 40 years together, then suddenly you're alone. You know that life goes on, you can't unturn the stone. You can’t unlive your life, wouldn’t if you could, so you need to find a way to make yourself feel good. First you learn to crawl, as you live through the pain, then as more time passes you learn to smile again. But, shortly after this great loss, her mom was called from this earth. Her love had been unconditional, from the very moment of birth. She continued as she’d been taught. Life happens every single day. She’d search for the silver lining, seemed that was just her way. One day you make a new friend soon you're feeling smitten. In Florida, we have love bugs, is it possible she's been bitten? You share mutual passions, of which, writing is only one, then one day you realize you’ve been having lots of fun. Whenever one door closes you’re often faced with another. Stand there or step through, it’s either one or the other. I’ve been roaming untried paths, just following my nose. So far I haven’t regretted any of the paths I’ve chose. This book is about my life much of it told in rhyme, the story isn’t finished, but I still have lots more time. So, now you’ve heard my story, poetically told, of course. I was rifling through your listings and the title of this leapt out and grabbed me.
poetically correct or not, this tells a story from the soul and no-one can do more than that.

You managed to condense your life story, at least its highlights, into one poem. I found it very interesting and enjoyable reading. best wishes with your book.
