living in the land of the free
you can maintain some sense of integrity
residing in the home of the brave
means choosing never to be a slave
they come from near and they come from far
by boat, by plane, on foot, by car
they come to her with dreams and hope
some gain success, some surrender to dope
but opportunities can't be denied
the chance to say that at least you tried
and work is hard and pay is low
but life is sweet with freedom's glow
conspiracy theories and government lies?
they're unfortunate facts that may bring our demise
it's in our nature, humanity's plight
we love to control and we love to fight
but most of our days we live in peace
we work and love and eat and sleep
no armed guards parading around
no bombs exploding in the next town
I say take what life gives you and be grateful for all
tomorrow may just bring humanity's fall
but today, this moment is all that is mine
the universe promises nothing
past this instant in time
and I'm proud to live it in America
