I can say, “I love you madly”
I can say, “I need you badly"
but these are just words
to be heard…………to be said
it’s not what’s in my head

I can write, “I’m yours forever”
I can write, “don't leave me ever”
but these are just sentences
with an end……………..and a start
it’s not what’s in my heart

what is inside my heart & mind
is a love so bright it’s left me blind
mere words could never truly state
the essence of a love so great

but I am a poet, and so it goes
words are all a poet knows
these clichéd scribbles are simply tools
for the continuing rants of this lovesick fool

yet, futile as these words may be
I find that time & time again
I sit as though unconsciously
and let my soul speak through my pen

and as the years progress
I’ve come to realize
there are things that exist in the heart and soul
which simply can’t be verbalized

and the poet is left speechless
