Shark & Goldfish
He knew the pond held many goldfish
Beautiful, trusting, and unafraid
They were used to finding their own food
But when bread was thrown on the surface of the pond
They all swam towards the vibrations
Drawn by scent perhaps
And curiosity
Finding wet crumbs of bread
As a welcome change from pond fare
They began to push each other aside
To reach the prize of white
When that happened
He took his old net
The one with a tight weave
And a large hole in it
And scooped them up
No intentions of eating them
Just seeing if he could do it
Capture them, bring them to air
Watch them squirm, gasping for breath
Lovely gold fish
Then put the net back in the water again
So they could breath while still caught
In his net
Some found the hole and escaped
Others gasped after the experience
Weak and caught
He dropped bread again
Into the net
The fish went into a feeding frenzy
He lifted the net in the air once more
Playing with their lives
Because
He could
