Advice And Wisdom, Ocean Sky

I have come to the opinion, that I don't have any opinions, until they are forced upon me.  Maybe I am a lazy thinker, and only form opinions in frustrations.  I am more of an observer, always in that happy place of neutrality.

Recently I have noticed the difference between wisdom and advise.  Advise is given so often and generously when it is never asked for.  I think that's why it's widely ignored.  And yet when we go to someone to draw on their opinion, we are honoring their wisdom.

But here is the kicker!  Because of some folks constant stream of advise, aka KNOW IT ALLS, we know that beneath all that blather, there is wisdom.  So when we need to draw from the well......we know it's a deep one.

So in a way we are doomed, when we do seek wisdom from such a source.  We feed their ego's and make them positive, that no one can do anything without their input.  A real catch 22!  But sort of funny when you think on it.......wisdom and advise.....ocean and the sky........so close, yet so different.........

By the way........I rarely ask for advise!

Advice And Wisdom, Ocean Sky

Where the ocean and the sky
Meet between horizon's eye
Thin as paper on divide
Air to sea the difference wide

Splish, splash!

As I think on parallel
Of those who have so much to tell
Opinions given I don't need
Advise or wisdom, starve or feed

Why do people feel compelled
To wave  their thoughts, like ocean's swell
Splash opinions over me
I never asked so spare me.....please

And in their wave, they're always right
They know whats best for all in sight
Though no one asked for such advise
They're generous, and so precise!

They drench you in their best intentions
Treat others as an intervention
Insist you do it, in their own way
Just like a storm, you're blown away

Whoosh!

Annoying true , as it  can be
Despite it all, one thing I see
When indeed I need advise
I'll find it ready, free of price

If and when I choose to ask
I'll know the source by which to task
And with respect, your wisdom seek
Along with honor and technique

So if I come to you in need
Then your wisdom, I will heed
Advise and wisdom, ocean, sky
Thin as paper, on divide

Get the hint?

You don't need to take anyone's advice, just be yourself, do your own thing, stay well and happy.

I follow Jimmini Cricket's advise, singing:
'When you gerrin trouble
and you don't know write from wrong
give a little whistle - whooooooooo
give a little whistle - whoooooooooo
When you meet temptation
and the urge is very strong
give a little whistle - whooooooooo
give a little whistle - whoooooooooo
and always let your conscience be your guide.

Heh c'mon Dai, get a grip, taking a lead from a wee grasshopper? Where's the wisdom in that?
Just.

So wise a write - I also get plenty of "free advice." I know the feeling all-too-well. I don't ask for advice (normally), and I definitely don't "give" advice (LOL) - although once-in-awhile, I may state some opinions. At the same time, I take the view that you shared on your bio page: "Forgive those who have offended you." Peace and good health to you. -- Jeff

A bit humorous, but the truth is undeniable...
Great comparison. :~)

I find that advice from friends or relatives is especially hard to take when unsolicited. Unlike a stranger, they have the ability to follow up - discover if you took their advice. That can lead to hurt feelings on both ends. I love the imagery in this poem. You've used nature to express your frustration in a refreshing way. Great poem!

Will ask your opinion before I "Advise and Consent." My goofy side just had to throw a book title here.

My advice would be that you use [advice] rather than [advise] here. My spelling is atrocious, so I know wherein I speak. Does embarrassed experience lead to wisdom?

You are not a lazy thinker. You are simply not too quick to form an opinion. There is a difference.

Anita,

I dare not give you advice. (lol) True, there is so much out there that is unsolicited but the advice cost nothing and there is so little out there that's free these days and you know as well as I do that your gonna receive it whether wanted or not. A little advice, " Please Enjoy All the Peace, Love and Blessing That Life Has to Offer." Always, Paul.

In my child-mind, I always picture us as bottom-dwellers, beneath the sea of sky--second-level-dwellers. Then, there must be the planet earth, as a round fish, eating yellow light-rays -- sucking them in, and secreting (who knows what)into the ocean of space... and the celestial bodies then, must be a school of land-bass-- bottom-feeders of an even vaster body of the cosmic sea.

But when telling all of this to my wise mother-- she smiled knowingly and said, "maybe, child. may be..." I think the only unsolicited advice she ever gave me was-- Go to bed! What a too-too deep well she was.

(you make me miss my mommy...)... maybe she's swimming out there-- celestial dust glowing in her hair... (maybe, child. may be...)
