Completely unfettered from all pros and cons, I dive into the Void that is charged within me: No questions, no answers -- I am disheartened, Just like a stupid or a dry tortoise shell or a pair Of crushed boots or a broken bank or a bargain, Which is finally wrecked. O how hard it is, man, To pass one's good self off as a fair fool, strictly!

I love to play the fool. It seems much more fun and less likely to come under criticism than playing it straight and narrow like an old shoe that is nobody's comfort except its owner.

Yes, it is very hard indeed. Perhaps we need to realize that the tortoise shell and pair of crushed boots have their moment as well, but no one wants to be a crushed book. In fact, it's a great image. Sometimes I feel like a crushed boot. You think you feel tough, like a boot, only to realize that you suddenly feel crushed. John
